Series: Daily Light from the Word — Day 16
Scripture Reading:
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
— Matthew 26:41 (KJV)
A Common Struggle
Every believer faces temptation. It is part of living in a fallen world. Temptation may come through pride, anger, fear, selfish desires, or many other forms. Yet Scripture reminds us that these struggles are common to all people.
The presence of temptation does not mean a person has failed spiritually. What matters is how we respond when temptation appears.
God Provides a Way
1 Corinthians 10:13 gives believers an encouraging promise. God is faithful and will not allow temptation to become greater than we can bear. With every temptation, He provides a way to escape.
That escape may come through remembering Scripture, turning to prayer, seeking wise counsel, or removing ourselves from situations that encourage sin.
Staying Spiritually Alert
Jesus told His disciples to watch and pray so they would not enter into temptation. Spiritual alertness helps believers recognize danger before it leads to sin. Prayer strengthens the heart and keeps the mind focused on God.
As believers depend on the Lord, they gain strength to resist temptation and choose what honors Him.
Victory Through Christ
True victory over temptation comes through Christ. By walking in the Spirit and relying on God’s strength, believers can overcome the pull of sin.
Each victory reminds us that God’s power is greater than the temptations we face.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in times of temptation. Help me stay alert and depend on Your strength. When I am tempted, remind me of Your Word and guide me toward the path that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
