Series: Daily Light from the Word — Day 17
Scripture Reading:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
— John 14:15 (KJV)
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
— James 1:22 (KJV)
Love Expressed Through Obedience
Obedience is a natural response to genuine love for God. Jesus taught His disciples that love for Him would be demonstrated through keeping His commandments. Obedience is not about earning God’s favor, but about responding to the grace we have already received.
When believers understand the depth of God’s love and the sacrifice of Christ, their hearts are moved to follow Him. Obedience becomes an expression of gratitude rather than a burden.
More Than Hearing the Word
James reminds believers that it is not enough simply to hear the Word of God. True faith leads to action. When we listen to Scripture but fail to apply it, we miss the purpose for which God gave His Word.
God’s instructions are given for our good. They guide us away from harm and lead us toward a life that reflects His character.
The Blessing of Following God
Obedience brings spiritual growth and deeper fellowship with the Lord. As believers follow God’s direction, they experience His guidance and peace in their lives.
This does not mean life becomes free from difficulty, but it does mean we walk in harmony with God’s will. Obedience keeps our hearts aligned with Him.
A Daily Choice
Every day presents opportunities to obey God. Sometimes obedience involves small decisions that shape our character over time. At other times it requires courage to follow God even when the path is difficult.
When believers choose obedience, they demonstrate their trust in God’s wisdom and goodness.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that guides my life. Help me not only to hear Your truth but to obey it. Give me a heart that desires to follow You and the courage to walk in Your ways each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
