Series: Daily Light from the Word — Day 12
Scripture Reading:
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”
— 1 Peter 2:2 (KJV)
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
— Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
Nourishment for the Soul
Just as the body requires food to grow strong and healthy, the believer requires spiritual nourishment to grow in faith. God has provided that nourishment through His Word. The Bible is not simply a collection of religious writings; it is the living Word of God given to guide, instruct, and strengthen His people.
Peter compares believers to newborn babies who desire milk. A baby naturally longs for nourishment because it is necessary for growth. In the same way, Christians should develop a desire for the Word of God. Through Scripture we learn truth, gain wisdom, and grow in our relationship with the Lord.
Guidance for Daily Living
The psalmist described God’s Word as a lamp and a light. In ancient times a lamp helped travelers see each step along a dark path. God’s Word functions in the same way for believers today. It provides direction, helping us understand what is right and how to walk faithfully before God.
When we spend time reading and meditating on Scripture, the Holy Spirit uses those truths to shape our thoughts and guide our decisions.
Developing a Daily Habit
Spiritual growth does not happen by accident. It comes through consistent time with God and His Word. Even a few moments spent reading Scripture each day can have a powerful impact over time.
As believers read the Bible regularly, they begin to understand God’s character more clearly. They see His faithfulness, His promises, and His wisdom for life.
A Lifelong Journey
No believer ever finishes learning from God’s Word. Throughout life, Scripture continues to teach, correct, and encourage. Each passage reveals more about God and His work in the lives of His people.
The more we grow in God’s Word, the more our hearts are shaped to reflect the character of Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help me develop a deeper desire to read and understand the Scriptures. Guide my steps through the truth of Your Word and help me grow in faith each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
